NSMT07 Posted August 16 Share Posted August 16 Hello everyone! I am a newbie rider and just recently bought a 2023 MT-07 Pure as my first bike. After getting a brand new MT-07 Pure the ride home from the dealership was great with no problems but after a few days riding I noticed that upshifting became really difficult and I had to use quite a lot of strength on the gear lever to get the bike to upshift especially into 2nd and 3rd gear. When up to speed getting into 4th and 5th is significantly easier while there are no problems with the downshifts. So far I've only put on about 50 miles on it. I did read that upshifting difficulties could be due to riding boots not fitting between the footrest and gear lever so I tried increasing the gap between them but that did not help fix the problem. Could this be a rider issue or is it more likely to be a mechanical issue? I got my license fairly recently and learned on an older MT-07 as it was the bike provided by the motorcycle instructors at the course / riding school. While learning and riding during the course I had no problems shifting gears up and down - everything was smooth so I'm thinking it's unlikely to be a rider error, but I could be wrong. My wild guess is that something in the shift linkage is out of position. Welcome to the board, NSMT07! (typed in parallel with MH's post above) Thank you both for the replies, I appreciate it. Every time I pull in the clutch I let off the throttle and then go for the gear change. Just had the dealer check the bike out as well and they said that they're looking into it but suggested me to ride because the bike is so new. I don't know maybe it'll fix itself ? Because you are a new moto-man, and you will be working on every bike you will own in your future, it is tempting to take it apart, maybe just for inspection, or more.PLEASE DON'T DO THAT FOR YOUR OWN PROTECTION (you could create a problem, or put yourself in danger opening up bike without a background that could put your safety in question). If you "work" on the bike you open possibilities for the dealer to blame something on you. Please, take that bike straight to the dealership and drop it off, refuse any offer to "ride the bike". You say they are looking into it - how can that be, if you have the bike? I know you want to ride but don't. Drop that bike off and start following up withe the dealer, asking questions. Don't let them delay working on your bike, making excuses, or denying responsibility. Get back to us and we will be your moral support, will help walk you thru any dealer difficulties. This is Yamaha's responsibility, you have warranty, and you are in the right. Get that bike back to the dealership service department and give them the keys. You key phrase here is "I don't want the keys back until this is fixed, and I don't want anyone at the dealership putting miles on the bike trying to wear anything in". They can ride it around the block and that's about all they need do, and they will know there is a mechanical problem. And then you refuse to take the bike back until it's been repaired under warranty. We will show you how to call Yamaha to get them to push the dealer to correct this. Record how many miles are on the bike by taking pictures of the meter / odometer with the key on/bike running. Take more pictures of bike all around, showing it's new, and it has not been wrecked (may become very important). Welcome to fz07.org ! Mine shifted smoothly and easily from the moment I left the dealership. It's not normal and won't fix itself!
