Can you swap spark plugs without removing the gas tank (1st gen)?

I have almost 15000 miles in my 2017 FZ07. I don't notice any issues with the ignition, but I just saw that the spark plug interval is 12000 miles. I was going to get it done over the winter.

Is it possible to do without removing the tank? If I must remove the tank, is there a risk of spilling leftover fuel? Any advice is appreciated.

It is no problem to remove the fuel tank.
You can simply disconnect the rubber hose of the fuel line from the tank. There is a quick connector valve that closes automatically.
After disconnecting, a little fuel leaks from the hose, but a cloth is enough to catch it.

Pull the orange cover upwards, press the black buttons on both sides of the connector and pull it gently off the white part. Thats it.

I think it is not worth the risk to mess something up with the spark plugs because you have no space to work properly.

Remember to disconnect the temperature sensor in the front and the fuel pump plug, remember to mark the two venting hoses on the lower right side so you don't mix them up while reconnecting.

Use pressured air to clean the area where the spark plug is fittet from dust, sand and stuff. You don't want to let it fall into the cylinder.
Screw in the new spark plug carefully by hand for the first few turns, only use a big ratchet when it is seated correctly and not tilted in the thread.

And the long M8 bolt on the front of the tank needs a 12mm socket, not 13mm like the rest of the planet uses. Because Japan.

Got it. I have a 12mm thankfully. How long of an extension do I need to reach the spark plug?

This is the path I have chosen. Other people might take another route or have a good trick to reach the plugs on a faster way but I wanted to play it safe.

Haha thanks. Looks like I'll need an extension.

Navid, will you be swapping with iridium plugs?

I should say anyone using iridium?

I already have a set and probably gonna use iridium when the time comes to replace.

Hi, I'll use the NGK LMAR8A-9 which is OEM.

If memory serves 🤔, I think I left the tank in place. I did have to unbolt the radiator, and drop it out of the way. I didn't drain it, I just moved it out of the way. Good luck-
