I saw you changed your battery for an EarthX lithium (ETX18F I'd guess). I have been also thinking about it for a few months doing research and comparisons and was almost ready to hit the trigger for Antigravity YTZ10 12-Cell from RevZilla. So questions for you:
- Which lithium batteries did you check?
- Why did you choose the EarthX over the rest?

Thanks again bud!

@panchobullet , you are correct Sir, I got the EarthX ETX18F. After researching all the available batteries I wanted a straight drop in with similar case dimensions as the OEM battery. There are a few out there that fit that bill, but out of all of them, the EarthX is the lightest at 2.2 lbs. Shori was 2.3lbs, and Antigravity was 2.4 if I'm not mistaken.

Now, having said that, that's not the actual reason I got it, because we're basically splitting hairs at this point when it comes to weight. Same thing when it comes to cold cranking amps. They all put out well more than the 190 CCA the OEM puts out.

I really got the EarthX because of its technology. It's the only battery that has the electronic circuitry and management system built into the battery to protect from over discharge, over charge, cell balancing, and excessive cranking protection.

What this means is that you don't need a fancy, expensive lithium battery charger. A regular charger will work perfectly because the battery itself has the built in circuitry doing all the smart work for you, not the charger.

That was the appeal for me.

After 10+ years of remote control car racing in Japan, I've seen battery technology go from me having to solder individual NiCad cells together to make race packs, to the lithium battery craze where some of these hi amp packs put out twice the power in less than half the weight.

When I saw that EarthX line of batteries with their features and built-in circuitry, I was sold.

I'm just like you when it comes to buying products...I do crazy research too, and thought EarthX offered the best features available.

Ha! Yeah, I always do a ton of research...

I did pull the trigger though on the quickshifter, but I went with the HealTech. I like yours as well, but I'm drawn to the ultra small stain gauge on the HealTech. Should be here next week :)

I just ordered those Suburban Machinery M1 bars because of your bike. They're so f@#%ing sexy. Got the same front EFPA brake pads and some rear sets on the way too! I ordered these bits to prep for my first track day.

I'm still on the fence on purchasing a dedicated track bike. I don't really need to with our beloved FZ-07s... I'm just worried about hurting her and getting her so dirty all the time. :)

That's awesome!  You're gonna have so much fun on the track!!!

I thought about getting another bike for the track, either an R3 or an R1 (I know, I'm all over the place), but I decided for now to keep going with my bike and do some more upgrades, and possibly race it in the CVMA series next year.  I may do a few rounds this year to see how competitive I'd be, but I'm not going to do the FZ-07R conversion.  I still want it to be dual purpose, street/track.  I mean, it's already pretty much an "R" minus the bodywork.  Some R versions have the R6 fork conversion, and some don't (the R6 fork conversion isn't legal in some classes).

I'm sorta splitting the difference, using stock forks and no bodywork, although I have to do something about a closed bellypan to make it legal for racing.

How many cut off wheels does it take to remove your stripped rear axle?

Ten.  Exactly ten :)

Damn, bet you wish you have a die grinder. 1/4 of a wheel and you could cut your whole bike in half, haha. I've seen this problem around here a lot, but I'm sure most people will never run into this. How many times have you had your rear wheel off, maybe 50-60 times or more?

Yeah, I've had the wheels off more times I can count, lol.  I'm waiting for something to fall into place before I post up the whole story, but yeah, lets just say it wasn't fun.
As far as the die grinder, naw, I'm very good with a Dremel.  I used to be a structural maintenance specialist (sheet metal, corrosion control) back in the day while in the Air Force :)

Gilles Tooling makes a very nice titanium axle nut for our bike.  I'm going to try and see f I can find someone to make a titanium axle to match.

I already got TWF Racing's captive spacer kit, and new ceramic bearings from World Wide Bearing to make wheel swaps hassle free...those are going in hopefully tomorrow, along with the Gilles Tooling AXB Chain Adjuster with built in spools.

I have a bunch of other maintenance to do and stories to share, just waiting on some things to arrive before I post up.

I've been a busy bee for sure!

Well, crap… looks like we [FZ-07 owners] are going to be plagued by this.  I seriously believe Yamaha really cheap'd out on hardware on this bike…

I adjusted my chain today and felt resistance while loosening and immediately thought about this issue! I got worried since track day is coming up this weekend so I sprayed the nut and bolt with WD40 and was able to get it off! I had to loosen and retighten a few more times to align the wheel successfully too!

Does the titanium axle nut last indefinitely or is it something that will wear eventually like the stock one? As far as the axle itself, that's not the problem is it? I thought it was the aluminum swingarm adjuster plate that the axle strips. Obviously both need to be trashed to get the axle off the bike.

How much for the titanium axle nut? I want.

I'm sure any nut will wear out eventually. The OEM lock nut uses some sort of extra metal flange on the face that seems to dig in the threads of the axle and provides the locking security.

The Gilles design is really unique. It threads on like normal, but then you tighten a set screw on the face that pushes out this internal plastic locking mechanism that grabs the threads.

I like the idea that when the set screw is loose, there is nothing trying to "lock" the nut in place, so the nut should go on and off easily with no drama, and after it's tight, you lock it down. To loosen just unlock it by loosening the set screw, then there is no force against the threads like there is with the OEM nut, so I think it should be less prone to stripping.

That, and it's now a balance thing for me. After finishing up the captive spacer kit and ceramic bearings, I found out you can't use the dust seal on the right rear side of the bike. All the other dust seals can be used, but because of the way the right side spacer is "captive" to the internal tube, the OEM dust seal cannot be used.

I hate the idea of having one side different than the other, i.e. lighter, but the lightened Gilles Ti nut on the left side will balance all that out, at least in my head!

(you guys all know by now I'm "particular", LoL)

I'll PM you the price on the Gilles Ti Axle Nut.

I know I've been a little MIA in my own thread, but I've been a busy bee...

Finally took Yami to the dyno to test air filters...

Yami, for the first time since I got her, let me down..big time.

I spent all week wrenching to get ready for this, all my parts came in, etc, and right from the start we had issues.

When we hooked her up to the dyno, the throttle position was reading 92% at all times, even when fully closed. Dale thought maybe it had something to do with the quickshifter I installed, since it plugs in-line with the coils and Power Commander. So I had to strip the bike down again, remove the quickshifter from the equation, and we still had the same exact result, TP reading 92% all the time.

Which means that what ever the fueling was for 92% throttle, was being used everywhere, at all throttle positions. The last few times I rode it I thought something was a little off, but just wrote it off to being over 110 degrees outside.

We called DynoJet (they are HQ'd in Vegas not too far away from me), and they wanted to test it. Which means I had to uninstall it, all the wires, clips, plugs, etc. Took it to them and they ran it through a bunch of tests. Turns out the throttle position sensor area of the PCV was bad (duh), and they gave me a brand new one and replaced it under warranty. They were awesome to deal with.

So instead of dyno testing filters, I spend all day wrenching, again. Finally got it all installed, as well as the quickshifter...and ran into another problem. Error code on the dash and check engine light. I almost lost it I was so mad. I took the day off of work to do this testing and Dale's shop was just about to close and we didn't do any dynoing. Code turned out to be intake air temperature. Wouldn't you know it I forgot to plug it back in after taking off the gas tank. Striped the bike again, plugged it back in, and ran an operations test on the dyno and finally everything was in working order...thank goodness.

But now it was late, and late as in Dale's shop was already closed for an hour and a half...he stayed late to tune for me, but he only had so much time. I really wanted to get it done today as the conditions were perfect, and tomorrow was going to be higher humidity, which is not typical of the conditions I usually experience.

The guys at dynojet were nice enough to transfer my map to the new unit, and even made some tweaks to a certain area of the map so it plays nice with the 02 optimizer (this is the map I've been running the whole time that Dale had spent a lot of time on). They did nothing to rest of the actual tune.

So, with that said, we had enough time to do a baseline run with that map, which was optimized for the DNA Filter and Air Box Cover, and Akrapovic Ti exhaust with no baffle.

Then, I changed to the new MWR Air Filter, and Dale optimized the map for that, and the MWR Air Filter made 1 hp more everywhere.

Thank goodness.

It was so late I didn't get a printout, or even look at the torque figures, but we may do some more tuning tomorrow morning if the humidity isn't bad. Even if we don't, the bike ran incredible all year on the previous map, and this one is better everywhere by 1 hp. Probably won't even notice a difference to be honest, but it's nice to know that the MWR Filter WORKS...especially when it's up against the DNA, a known good filter.

Now I wait for the the AP MotoArts rear suspension link, ceramic bearing shift arm, and Yoyodyne Slipper CLutch to get done, and somewhere in there I'll measure for the new custom Spiegler brake lines everyone is asking about (as in what length to get if you have the Woodcraft Clip-On adapter plate with the 1.5 inch risers in the DOWN position).

What a day...

I will say this though...the HealTech quickshifter is the BEES KNEES!

Oh man, that was quite a long day! But happy to see Yami roaring like that... Is it just me or was she smilling at the end?... :-P
We need to know the outcome from that dyno run!!! What was the final Hp/Tq Yami pull out?...
