MeanMug
Hi everyone, My bike when new had a whir noise when I turned it on (fuel pump), before engaging starter. Now with 465 miles on the odo, it never whirs ever. Does this mean the fuel pump is bad?? The bike now takes a few cranks to get going too. My other honda was fuel injected and it whirred every single time I turned on the key. Please let me know what you guys are seeing, I may need to schedule a service call. Global Moderator Guru Posted July 23, 2014 Global Moderator Share Posted July 23, 2014 I can hear my fuel pump every time I turn the key before starting. It has about 1000 miles on it now.

lonerider
I hope that we're not getting a fuel pump issue as the WR250R and X. When the temperature was hot and with low level of fuel, the fuel pump was getting hot. Not enough fuel in the tank to cool it down. So the fuel pump quit. past bikes: WR250X, KLR650, V-Strom 1000, DR650, FZ-6, SV650S, Seca II, GS400S, Seca 750, YZ80.

That caused quite a stir in the WR community and wasn't handled well by Yamaha. Mine was an '08 to and fell in the affected range but I never had a problem. dravyck
I feel kind of stupid because I realized I was having this problem, make sure your kill switch isn't engaged when you turn the key on. 82 Yamaha XJ550 Maxim Black (Passed Away) 15 Yamaha FZ-07 White

steviede
Fisrt start of the day my fuel pump always turns on, after its warmed up though it doesn't do it every time. I think it depends on if the pump needs to build up pressure before starting or not. 2015 Matte Metallic Grey FZ-
MeanMug
Hey thanks everybody for the help, I am now making the sure the kill switch is set to kill before I turn on the key and maybe the fuel system is up to pressure or something. THe bike starts every time and all that, Im just over analyzing this I guess. Again thanks for the responses. RRokay Raggie

THe bike starts every time and all that, Im just over analyzing this I guess. Again thanks for the responses. I guess you are over analyzing and maybe confused lol. Just leave that kill switch alone. Don't set it to kill before turning the key. Leave it in the normal middle position. Use the key to turn the bike on and let the dash do its wizardry. While looking at that cool display you will hear the pump prime. Then start the engine pushing the red switch downwards. To turn off the bike, just use the key. You will never have the kill switch accidentally in a upper (kill) postion when you put the bike away.
Premium Member Kipawa Posted July 24, 2014 Premium Member Share Posted July 24, 2014 So there's a question. I never use the kill switch always the key. I have heard people use the kill switch and I am wondering why? Is it not designed for an emergency shut off situation?
Global Moderator Guru Posted July 24, 2014 Global Moderator Share Posted July 24, 2014 You're right. I see the kill switch as an emergency shut off too. I never kill the engine that way and just use the key to stop the engine making that puda-puda-puda sound. Cruizin
You can mount a rocket launcher on your bike and rig the kill switch to set it off. Blow up some cagers! Yamaha MT-10 ForumYamaha Tracer 900 Forum Yamaha Ténéré 700 Forum
