New FZ 07 owner - Las Vegas

I just got a FZ 07 Monday off craigslist. It has a tail tiddy, aftermarket levers, and a ecu flashed.
The bike is a Canadian but the owner got the local title. I don't think it has much different then the American version. I'm glad it isn't a Cali model.
I got it for $5000 with about 1100 miles on it. The previous owner changed the screen.

What's wrong with the CALI version?

Welcome!
Probably extra emissions hardware?  Not sure if that applies to the FZ-07 but it used to for most bikes.

Why can't left turners see us?

Thanks guys!
The emissions stuff they put on over there. Who knows what else too.
I'm gonna work on getting a M4 for it anyways.

Ok, I'm up for it. I'm working on getting it insured and plated now. I'll let you know when I'm ready.

Welcome and congrats! What do you think of it?

So far I liked it on the ride home. It has quite a bit more power than my 250. I have to thrash my 250 to get anywhere on it. The FZ I don't have to ride as hard and the wind isn't as bad as my dual sport.

Are you going to keep your XT250 for dirt riding?
Yeah I am. The main reason I got it was to learn how to ride on it and keep it for dirt after I out grew it. I think it might need some fork work though, since the dirt roads here can be really rough for what it's set up for and my weight. The insurance is cheap for it now, it's only like $270 a year for liability.
I thought about upgrading it. I looked at the WR250r and it's a upgrade but I don't know if it's worth it with the same cc as my XT. It's hard to tell since I've never test rode one.
I looked at the 450s but a lot of them are race built with a lot of oil changes and maintenance. Not to mention they cost more than a FZ-07.

I understand but are you aware the WR250F isn't just another 250? It's engine is practically a race engine and the XT's is not, plus, you get about 4 more inches of travel and liquid cooling. It's way more dedicated to the dirt than an XT is. The bike is a beast in comparison, you would probably love it. You should take a test ride on one.

Ok, I'll keep a eye open for a 250F on craigslist. I've seen one or two pop up but I think they're older and carb based models. My motorcycle funds are dried up for now but if I could get more off roading I know a better bike dirt bike would be something to look at.

I'm pretty sure they've been fuel injected since 2008. The only changes I'm aware of since then are cosmetic but you can check and see to be sure.  Updated: http://www.topspeed.com/motorcycles/motorcycle-reviews/yamaha/2008-yamaha-wr250r-ar46028.html

The WR250F is a different bike than the WR250R.

Yes, it is. My mistake, I meant to say WR250R like the R model I gave a link for but IF you wanted to go full out 'dirt only' bike the F is even better but that would also open up a lot of new doors for other 'dirt only' bikes. Cruizin has a real nice KTM 250.
