But to your point, if an accident had occurred and it ended up in court, I could see an officer asking the judge "Is it reasonable for a motorcycle to lane split at xx mph faster than the flow of traffic?" When the law was first proposed, it had a 15 mph differential, but that got taken out. But something tells me that's the speed differential police has in mind. So the OP was at 55 mph, which I assume is the speed limit. He eventually slows down to 40 mph after taking evasive action, and at that speed is still slightly faster than traffic around him. So I'd say the speed differential was about 20 mph--is that a "reasonable" speed differential to lane split? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
