Posted March 29, 20178 yr Just saw this... thought it was interesting and worth a share. BrakeFree is an ultra bright smart LED brake light that instantly improves a motorcycle's visibility. It mounts on the back of the helmet you already own and its sensors works automatically to let others know whenever you slow down--braking, engine braking, or downshifting. No need for a wired installation or connected apps. Brake Free is simply a smarter way to be seen. March 30, 20178 yr I was casually following various versions of this idea that never seemed to make it to market. Cool idea but given its passive design and our bike's "jerky" nature or merely jerking one's head about with bumps etc, I could see this thing throwing non-stop false positives, ultimately confusing and pissing off already pissed off drivers. I wonder how sensitive it is? I really like the helmet mount idea but for its massive size I would rather see a more discrete design and a controlled activation of some kind, Rfid or bluetooth etc, I dunno, I'd imagine they've got this stuff sorted. March 30, 20178 yr Author I think there are considerations when you talk about the size and tech that are created into making things. That's the thing with projects like this, you don't get to see feedback from users until they're out on the market to truly find out how well it works. Cus I'm curious as well. But it looks like we'd have to wait a year to find out. I think there definitely are a few who would like to see different designs (size/shape-wise), but I'm sure if a business was large enough, they'd be able to expand into creating different designs to suit other needs, but I think they went for a design that caters more towards those that want to be out there and seen (that's the point right?). And trying to create a product that suits every helmet shape there is probably doesn't help either. I think most ideas I've seen to helmets have been led strips that are slimmer, but come with power lines and just stay on. They don't activate in the way that this does. March 30, 20178 yr I saw this on reddit earlier today and thought it looked cool. I think it can be very useful w/ safety. I placed a order, hope they meet their goals.

I hope it makes it but its not looking good with only a month to go, I'll keep an eye on it. Crush your enemies. See them driven before you. Hear the lamentations of their women. Fuss Life.

March 30, 20178 yr Global Moderator Worst case is they make the goal, you lose your money and they never ship a product. Just beware that you may never see a product with Kickstarter or Indiegogo deals. Hopefully that will not be the case with this one.

March 30, 20178 yr I have mixed feelings about. I originally thought it was cool, then immediately after thought it looks really dorky. Engaging with people that have personality disorders on a message board is like arguing with a rock.
March 30, 20178 yr I'm currently using the Halo strip. From the markets of the halobelt. Gotta link this good stuff for us! http://www.halobelt.com/buy-led-safety-belt/halo-strip Bloody terrible uninformative website. Crush your enemies. See them driven before you. Gotta link this good stuff for us! http://www.halobelt.com/buy-led-safety-belt/halo-strip Bloody terrible uninformative website. Yea. When I first got it and turned it on it appeared that the strip only lit up right next to the power switch. But in the dark it looks much better.
March 30, 20178 yr Ive had this Adafruit place on my list for years. Tons of electro-luminescent materials and battery packs etc...if one wants to get crafty. There are other companies (not just halobelt) simply plugging a battery pack to this stuff and selling it for far too much money. If you can manage connecting one plug to another plug, or solder...do it yourself for much less. https://www.adafruit.com/products/447?q=el%20wire&p=3&http://www.ellumiglow.com/electroluminescence/el-tape This place in the UK has a better selection of colours and shapes:http://elwirecraft.co.uk/el-products/el-tape-categories/el-tape-2cm-x-40cm-neon-glow-strip-comes-with-driver/ Crush your enemies. March 30, 20178 yr Author Hey @cruzian3, how does the belt look like from the front of your helmet? What's the set up look like? @mjh937 - I can't stop thinking of the whole Skully fiasco. Instagram: @meekmade | You don't need to flat foot a bike to ride it.

March 30, 20178 yr Hey @cruzian3 , how does the belt look like from the front of your helmet? What's the set up look like? @mjh937 - I can't stop thinking of the whole Skully fiasco. I got the strip instead of the belt. So the picture that I posted is all you can see. From the front you can't see any of it. I think it was on sale for $20 so it's not bad for that price. I only have to charge it every few days.
April 5, 20178 yr I don't spring for a sub 3-pound, full-carbon helmet to weigh it down with anything. Reflectors will have to do.
April 12, 20178 yr The more I look into this the more I like it. I just backed this project for 2x devices. ...Oh and thanks @motomeek for bringing this one to my attention otherwise I probably would've missed it. Crush your enemies. See them driven before you.
