Hello Mixed007 here and I don't own a fz07 but I am considering it very strongly. So I registered so I could read up on what you guys and gals already know! But let me Give you a little background so you know where I am coming from. I currently ride 2013 Suzuki V-Strom 650 adventure bike and I love it because it's comfy and has great fuel mileage. I use to own a FZ09 when they first came out. Loved the motor but very uncomfortable in the seat I even sent it out 2x's. I have been riding for years. I am 53 years old I don't act it and don't look like it. I am 5'6" with a 29-30" inseam. I have sat on the 07 and it is comfy and fits real well. So if I like my storm so much why change? Glad you asked. The bike is top heavy kind of big and I get tired of wrestling with it. I also went thru about with cancer and it took some of my strength. Yes I am ok and kicked cancers ass but I am reminded every day that it was here. PS IF YOU KNOW ANYONE BETWEEN THE AGES OF 13-26 PLEASE GET THE HPV VACCINE. It will prevent you from getting this type of cancer. Ok I digress so I spoke to the dealer he will give me $5000 for my bike trade and sell me a 2016 fz07 for about $6500 I do owe about $3000 on the v-strom is it worth it you guys think I will be happy with it? Thanks for any input.

I'm glad you're better now. I'd take the deal. I could ride my FZ07 all day but after an hour the seat doesn't feel so comfortable. It doesn't bother me enough to get a comfort seat or send it out.

Thank you Jetgirl. I did sit on it but I am trying to find a place for a test ride but most dealers in NY kind of shy away from it usually have to go to jersey to do it. Are you a fan of the ny jets hence your name?

I never thought of that. No. I'm not a sports person and I'm in NH. My old bike was the baby Ninja; a Ninjette. I named him Jet and in homage to him I'm Jetgirl.  I wish you luck in getting a test ride.

Search for Yamaha Demo Days to find a test ride event near you. You can sign up to test ride multiple bikes on the same day.

I am curious about your V Strom. I am also 29 to 30 inseam and I felt I was too short to ride the V Strom.

I'm glad for you, stay strong! If you have to have comfy for touring an FZ-07 will be a down grade, IMO. You can buy an aftermarket seat that may help but I seriously doubt it will compare to a V-Strom's comfort level. On the plus side, it won't be as top heavy and much more fun to ride, provided you don't go putting a lot of stuff on top of it for a road trip but that goes without saying. I would say if you want a serious touring bike stick with the V-Strom. If you want a fun, quick, (not top heavy) bad-ass bike, the FZ-07 is the go to bike. You can spend more $$$ on it and possibly make it a decent tourer according to claims but not everyone has luck with that.

Heya Mixed. Welcome and I'm glad you are in good health!!! I'll give you the good and the bad that most riders will echo here. I'm a 42 year old dude, 5' 9", 180 lbs (no gear just meat and bones). (When I talk to women I'm 5' 11" just don't tell anyone my secret...thanks! JK lol!!)

The FZ-07 is the best bike at $7k hands down IMO! Any complaints bring me back to remind myself that it is a seven thousand dollar bike... period (it's not your latest super-sport). It's surprisingly comfortable. The suspension leaves something to be desired but for the common/light rider it's not an issue (unless you want to do track days). It's a VERY solid and torquey bike. The throttle is a bit jerky in 1st gear but that's mostly due to fuel injector cutoff on deceleration (Yamaha does this for emissions). The fuel cutoff on deceleration also gives the bike hard engine breaking. It doesn't make the power of a 600 but it's roughly 40 lbs lighter. The bike is plenty fast and VERY flickable. Breaks are good as well, even though the rear break is on the soft side.

Any of it's shortcomings can be rectified. But for the daily rider the bike is great as is! Simple mods that cost little and will really make the bike shine is an ECU flash and some aggressive brake pads and braided brake lines. These things can be done for $500. The ECU remapping will remove fuel cut-off on decel and properly fuel the bike giving you more power and much smoother response overall.

I always intended for this bike to be a project for street and track. Personally I've dumped another $3k in my FZ to get it "finished" (full suspension upgrade, ECU flash, full exhaust, intake upgrade, brake lines, break pads, wheel and frame sliders, lights, levers and mirrors).

I would not think about it too much. It's such a nimble and fun bike with plenty of power to keep you happy.

Cheers

Thanks for the idea. As for my V-Strom I lowered my bike with lowering links. And lowered my front evenly 3/4 of an inch if I put my left foot on the peg and flat foot my right or I am on my toes with both feet. This is the first bike I owned where I did not have to change the seat. I can ride for hours. I am fine. The way the. Bike is but you can get links to go lower yet 3/4,1",1-1/4 is max I think. If you are riding only street then go 1" and I should add the new model 2017 you maybe able to touch because they narrowed the frame it's really nice what They did.

Thank you for the response.  I have been riding heavy cruisers and want to make a change. I would like a fun, nimble bike and hence reading up on this forum. Before learning about the FZ07 I have been looking at used V Stroms as they have wind protection, but I am starting to feel the extra weight and touring abilities may not be needed.
