Anyone come from a VFR800?

Hi guys,

I'm currently selling my FZ-07 to potentially buy a 2014 VFR800. I'm doing a bit of research though and now I'm in the fence if it will be worth it or not. Basically the FZ-07 is a great bike that does everything well, but I also like the new VFR800 and have fond memories of a previous one I owned. Basically if it's worth paying the extra to get the VFR800, which looks like it's just a little better (except for oil changes), or use that money to invest in my FZ-07.

So something that will help me with my dilemma would be to know if anyone here owns both a VFR800 and FZ-07 or even better if they went from a VFR800 to an FZ-07?

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Any input will be greatly appreciated. Th vfr appears to be more of a road machine and more wind protection, more up scale in most regards and also more money. I would trade my f7 for a vfr in a heartbeat.                 ride safe  valvestem

No personal experience, but I can tell you that the previous owner of my bike bought both the FZ-07 and VFR at the same time.
He wasn't selling the VFR.

Yes get the VFR800. I would've bought one of I didn't pick up a R1200RS.

I just see the FZ-07 as a very specific use bike: city riding. Very light, nimble, and comfortable, that's it. Unstable at high speeds, crap suspension, no top end power. I tried making the bike to an all purpose one but eventually just replaced its role with other bikes.

I currently run my ZX636 and R1200RS around the city in the absence of the FZ-07 but will soon add a Grom for that.

Depends upon what you want to use it for. Sport touring - it's a great bike! But on a day to day, commuting bike, I'd go with the FZ07.

I haven't owned the VFR, but I took it for a long ride before I bought the FZ. It is big, heavy, and very powerful, esp when you get the RPMs up. It hits a big power curve jump around 7500 or so, but that's pretty high for a commuter.

The FZ has great low-end grunt and is lightweight, this is big for a commuter or around town bike.

It's a great bike, just depends what you want to use it for.

The old Viffers were great - all of them - but I personally would not consider the VTEC version because if its abrupt power transition. I considered the last version prior to the VTEC, but found the seating too cramped in the leg department and with a too forward cant of the torso. And for me, the FZ07 is simply far more exciting and I'm positive it's a much quicker bike in normal riding. You could say the VFR comes alive where the FZ taper off, but I hardly ever venture there anyway, preferring lower rpm over high rpm.

Overall, I find the Honda to be better made with much higher quality parts, with very nice suspension. The fairing and seating position is great for high-speed cruising and touring. On the downside, it is complex and especially the VTEC a nightmare to service, and also IMO quite boring at anything resembling legal speeds.

However - and this is the only part that matter - is what YOU think. What do YOU want - a Viffer or a Fizzer? Go with your emotions. We only live once. Best enjoy it ;)

IMO VFR800 is a better bike for a long distance rides but it also does darn well in the city as a daily commuter. I owned 2006 model for about 4 years and I still don't know why I got rid off it??!! It's not as "hooligan" as 07 with a low end torque but for sure it's fast as hell.

In rereading your initial post above I don't see what it is you are expecting to do with the bike. As others have said, it all depends on what you expect of the bike when it comes to which to purchase... and, how much you wish to spend. All the best... either way.

Thanks for the response guys. If my financing goes right, I might be able to keep both. But just want a good all rounder. FZ-07 and VFR seems to fit the bill very well. Interested in the VFR for a bit better 2 up riding, just a bit sporty and a bit faster and the VFR seems to have everything already prepared for that whereas I feel I would need to invest in the FZ-07 to be more suited for that. Only downsides I can find is the V4 valve maintenance and the weight. Still love the FZ-07 everyday I ride it though.

Quick update. I was able to sell the FZ-07 for the price I wanted and was able to get the VFR for that same price. All in all a good experience and the VFR is amazing. FZ-07 is definitely lighter and launches a bit quicker, but that's pretty much it. VFR is a great machine, they weight is very well distributed and the exhaust note is awesome. I'll be selling off my extra FZ-07 parts later on, I gotta see what was left over. it think I have some extra mirrors, OEM blinkers and tail section left over, so if anyone is interested, be on the lookout for that.
