sansnombre
I'm thinking I'd like to change the look of my FZ and like the UJM/Naked look of the XSR. I'm thinking of putting some of the XSR tank panels on if they fit. Anybody know of the compatibility and issues related to retrofitting this? Is it possible? Cost? It appears that the actual tank is the same, so it's just the panels and coverings that need to be swapped. But the FZ has the long panel that goes under the seat, so I'm concerned there. Would I need to change the seat as well? Anybody heard of this swap and what the difficulties might be? I did a search and it looks like it is possible, but just looking for any additional help here. Thanks.
Fast_Frankenstein
Late answer on an old thread. I looked into the same thing, as the bikes share all basic running gear. So, the good news is that yes this swap is possible. The bad news is that, unlike the FZ/MT, the XSR panels and parts are very expensive, and, you need plenty of parts for the exchange to be completed. I did the math, and it might actually be cheaper to purchase an XSR.... https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/yamaha/motorcycle/2019/xsr700-xsr700kgy/fuel-tank-3 https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/yamaha/motorcycle/2019/xsr700-xsr700kgy/fuel-tank-2 https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/yamaha/motorcycle/2019/xsr700-xsr700kgy/side-cover

Yeah, that’d be crazy expensive, especially since you can outfit an FZ with a completely different color scheme for about $200.
