mossrider Posted October 18, 2019 Author Share Posted October 18, 2019 (edited) Anaerobic Iron eating bacteria I'm told. Similar to an algae bloom I guess. We shocked existing well twice, chem treated it, tried to kill it with chlorine, back flushed it, then pulled the well and replaced all well mechanicals, pump, screens etc. Plugs filters every couple days now. Somehow it's out of control and can't be stopped. Every professional we've had look at it says 'Holy Fk!' never seen anything like it. We live in the country so no gas/water/sewer. Can't wait to find out if the septic system is effed too. Meh. I would have just raced/drank away my $ anyway. We have to seal (concrete) and cap the old well and do a completely new well to prevent cross contamination and protect neighbors well and prevent further groundwater contamination. No, we were still using the old well for laundry and showers in hard orange water. We used bottled water for cooking while we blew out and/or replaced plumbing and fixtures. We're just about completely squared away now. Wife didn't like the appliances anyway so those were going either way. Water softener was a Culligan and we never liked it since new. Thats been replaced with a state of the art high efficiency Morton softener. Water heater and boiler were new when we built the house 20 years ago so slated for replacement at some point too. Pressure tanks and water lines are included as part of our deal with the well diggers. Getting outdoor frost hydrants outta the deal too so we'll have running water outside now year around. So we're coming out of this ok except that my wife is showering in her trip to Hawaii, lol. On those lines I decided to conceal the teardown in the flurry of activity, The motor we ran this year checks ok so its probably going to get rotated out of service. Head is coming off the spare motor we ran last year for a refresh and porting. It already has cams installed. When complete it goes in the bike. I'll have 2 identical motors then. Shhh. Edit: obviously my plans for Carrillo rods, pollished tranny upgrades and blah blah had to be throttled back but we got this. This is a stock motor with Webb cams. It was an eBay motor out of a wreck with 900ish miles on it before I put in cams and ran it 1 full season. It still looks really good. It's going to Zoran @ TWF for a valve job and porting. Once done it'll be identical to the motor we ran this year. The motor above replaced the one below. Started thinking about splitting the stock 3 piece head gasket and messing with the squish and compression ratio. Since I put together the previous motor with reliability in mind I didn't mess with it any more than necessary and used a stock head gasket when I reassembled it. I tend to be my own worst enemy some times. The pic above is the stock head gasket I pulled out. Bellow I've pulled it apart trying to talk some sense into myself. Might be a cheaper way for me to get a couple of horse power w/o going with high compression pistons and rods and such. Hmm? Might find more reliability/power with proper gapped piston rings if you haven't done so vs just throwing on stock rings... every motor we(myself and buddy) have built/rebuilt in last 7+yrs we have set the ring gap- nitrous, NA, forced induction each have own ring gap standard... maybe switching to aftermarket valve springs from WebbCams will offer some reliability gains since I know them race bike motors spin rpms- more consistent valve pressure, less valve float,etc... This motor is low time and still pretty tight, So I'll probably leave the stock pistons and rings in it for now. Get outta here with your damned e85, lol.
