Clutch cover replacement - can't figure out where this seal goes.

Hi folks!

I got my bike used, and it has massive scrape-age on the clutch cover, so I thought it'd be an easy fun project to replace it.

After removing the clutch cover, I discovered that I could not easily remove the seals and bearing, so I ordered replacements from online:

  • 2CR-13338-00-00 - water pump seal
  • 93306-00105-00 - water pump bearing
  • 5VK-12438-00-00 - spring-loaded mechanical water pump seal (water pump side of the clutch cover)

Diagram:

My problem is that the spring-loaded seal came with another plastic-and-rubber seal, and I don't know where it goes. I didn't come across another seal like it during disassembly, and I don't see it anywhere in the parts diagram above. Can anyone tell me where it goes? It's on the right side in the attached pictures.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Part #33 in the diagram you posted... looks like it goes behind the pump blades...

That seal is the part that I ordered, and I know where that goes. I'm talking about the smaller seal that came in the same package (see pictures). This smaller one is not in the diagram.

Looks like what is referred to as the damper on the back of the impeller. Says it is not available alone, only in kit. I think it appears on the impeller shaft in the parts diagram, but without a separate part number. Here are the water pump section pages from the service manual.

By the way, for anyone else doing this job, that mechanical seal is $25, so don't break it like I did my first one.  😪

I found that the best way to insert the new seal is to hammer it in gently with a 1" socket on the outer-most edge.  The rest of the seal is extremely fragile.

Maybe I should invest in the service manual. 😂

If you’re going to do your own maintenance and service, it would be money well spent. I got the Haynes manual
