MiniFZ
I purchased my FZ a couple year ago, my second FZ. After dumping it at a track day a month after buying it , I decided to make it a street-able track bike. Toward the end of last summer decided I wanted to go racing, thus a new phase of the build began. However as the build has progressed I have come to realize the parts I purchased for street/track are not what I would purchase to build a race bike. So it’s going back to being a street/track bike. I’m going buy something different to build into a race bike (buying a complete bike is an option but I like to play in the garage), maybe something green... Premium Member cornerslider Posted March 24, 2020 Premium Member Share Posted March 24, 2020 I live in MN as well. We are a what I refer to as an "FZ-07R rich" environment... Andy Palmer (AP motoarts) lives near Albert Lea, MN. The CRA (club racing) scene is filled with the FZ-07R platform. You look like you have a really good start... What makes you want to go different direction??? ""W.O.T. until you see god, then brake"
MiniFZ
Honestly, I just want to try something different. I’ll definitely be keeping my FZ for riding around town and DCTC track days, but for racing I would like to build a ninja 650. The latest iteration, 2017+, seems to have a lot of potential and it doesn’t seem like there is a lot of them being raced at the moment. I would follow the current formula used with FZ’s and SV’s. That means engine build, ZX6R  front-end (forks / brakes), Ninja 400 body work, and as much weight saving as possible. My biggest question at the moment are engine potential. I am sure there are other things I should be thinking about, but I don’t know what they are yet.

Robert Fisher is working on one at the moment.  We’ve had some conversations about it and the issues he is facing.  The older Ninja 650 is really a beast and had an awesome frame with plenty of information available over the pond.  I have one of the previous gen bikes  shipping in to do some work on. I think it would be an awesome club bike.  Get your MT07 & FZ07 racing parts at https://www.robemengineering.com/fz-07-products

At least the Aprilia comes with a proper chassis and electronics.

Theres  an ione-moto FZ and an hot bodies SV upper and lower fairing. I’ll toss in the clip-ons too.

MiniFZ
Final project update. I finally got everything back together about a month ago and have put on 500 miles since.  My favorite mods are the suspension. upgrade and 17t front sprocket. Honestly, I think my suspension choices are overkill for a street bike even if it did complete transform the bike.  In hindsight I should have upgraded the stock fork internals with an emulator, spring, and oil... and for the rear a lower cost rear shock would have sufficed. Funny enough, at least to me, my favorite mod is the 17t front sprocket. At anything over 10 mph it was golden, though it did require a bit of clutch finesse when starting from a stop.  The worst mod imo was the exhaust, it is just obnoxious for a street bike. Granted I’m almost 40, so maybe my sensibilities are changing a little, but a the track it was great.  So... Anyway now that the project is done, its time for my Fz to move on to a new owner.
