Finished up my 2020 modifications for this year’s track season, if it ever starts

Only performance mod was the addition of the Akrapovic Ti exhaust. The sound is intoxicating. This is now paired with the Power Commander 5 (with a great tune) MWR Air Filter and lid,  and Heal Tech Quick Shifter. 

This years main mod was the addition of a front fairing number plate and new colors. The number plate is from S2 Concepts, it for a FZ-09, I really liked the look. Quality is decent for a fiberglass part and it arrived quickly from France. I had to modify the mounting brackets or make it fit. 

Got a knock off rear seat cowl, was advertised as a used genuine Yamaha parts, it wasn’t. The seller was cool and sent me a refund when I pointed it out, so I wound up paying $25. Overall it wasn’t too bad quality wise. The only thing I didn’t like was the soft collapsible rubber strip.  I made a foam insert for it and now it’s nice and firm.  

Also got some nice Woodcraft case savers to to replace my old RG ones.  

I decided to try Vinyl Wrapping for the first time. I’m happy with the results.  I also got a vinyl cutter for Christmas, so I made the logos and numbers too. 

I was originally going to do a full FZ-07R glass kit but decided to go with the naked or semi faired look. pgeldz has had an influence on me

This is the type of build I want for my bike, I average 4-5 track days a year usually (when covid leaves us).

The front plate looks ace, S2 Concepts make some cool stuff. I could spend a lot of money with them.

You’re right, it’ll never be done. 

I still need to install my TWF captive wheels spacers and get new Q4 tires for this season. 

Then I’ll need to add ???????? After that

The fairing brackets supplied by S2. Were very nice. The top one was too wide for the upper triple clamp. I cut and sectioned the top mount and welded it back together.

The lower mount was not even close to fitting the FZ-07, so I fabricated my own. 

A little filing and machine turning and they were done.

I knew this site wasn't filled with ordinary bums. You guys have a crap tonne of divergent skills and extraordinary abilities. I know I would have ended up with an unpolished turd in comparison. That's some nice work!

There is a lot of talent on this site, I appreciate and get inspiration from other members projects.

Ed, you out did yourself!  Looks incredible mate! (sorry, been spending too much time on Europe message board for the Tenere 700 - my next bike)

Really though, the bike came out great.  Seriously proper ride!  It reminds me of when I first built mine.

Hey Paul, thanks for the comments. 
The power delivery with the addition of the pipe feels very promising based on my pre season test sessions up and down the block. Neighbors cheers and scowls suggest a 10% power gain The Front wheel does not seem to want to hang out with the pavement anymore

I essentially have your FZ07 version 1 in Red, white and black. 
 

yes, still interested in race bodywork. Prolly nexts years modification.

I would love to know more about the vinyl wrap job...it looks fantastic.

What vinyl did you use? How much did it cost to do the bike? Was the vinyl hard to apply and get all your lines right with all the curves and angles on the bodywork? Any other words of wisdom?

Well that looks a whole lot better

install took 2 hours including wiring the speed controller to the PCV  and uploading the Hord map.

Then my son came home with beer,  so no test rides yet.

I purchased the vinyl from Metrorestyling.com I used Avery Vinyl. I purchased (3) 3’ x 5’ sheets. This was plenty including mistakes. The vinyl is very workable. Patience and a heat gun are your  friends. If you want to seam colors together get the 3M cutting tape , it works the best.

check out YouTube videos on vinyl wrapping motorcycles. Lots of good info on there.

dont be afraid to try it, worst case is you peel off and throw a piece away.  

Total cost was $116-

That looks great!

Will you be using the 'per gear' fuel and ignition function in Hord's map? If so, be aware that this function can't be used until you've calibrated the gears in the PCV (and wired up the bike's speed sensor to the PCV).

Gear calibration vid here (from 4:35), from memory you don't need to worry about calibrating speed:

I fumbled my way through the calibration with a laptop and rear stand (the rear wheel needs to be turning for calibration), but it's well worth the extra functionality, particularly if you ever plan to add dynojet's quickshifter down the track ; )

Yes, I’m using the per gear maps. JD told me that I would only need to wire it up and it would work. The Power Commander literature says the software is already set up for our bikes. I had it running on the stand and went through the gears, it sees all 6 gears and the gear values were displayed. 

Do I need to do anything else?
