shinyribs Posted June 19, 2020 Share Posted June 19, 2020 That's from the hardening/tempering process to give it a long lasting surface to interface with the chain. The bluing near the gear teeth is a sign of the temps reached to temper the teeth so they wouldn't be brittle after hardening. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
