Torque is how far you move it. 4 3 "Do not let this bad example influence you, follow only what is good"

klx678
Interesting part for those who don't know... you can't calculate the horsepower without knowing the torque.

A wise friend once told me "Horsepower sells parts, torque wins races"- I don't know if I'd buy that line. Seems the 51 hp Honda 750 has more torque than the 90 hp Aprilia RS660, having 47 ft-lb vs 45 ft-lb respectively. So the Honda would win the race? Maybe if it was a tractor pull.

There are sooo many other factors at play here! Dyno charts don't win races- "racers" win races.... If all we are going by is dyno charts, then maybe we should just cancel ALL racing? It would be much safer that way- 1 ""W.O.T. until you see god, then brake"

It would be much safer that way- Don't take it so seriously, just lampooning the statement "horsepower sells parts, torque wins races", which was someone's platitude that kind of ignored a lot of factors... an off the cuff "bench racing" comment as Evill_Ed hinted at. It also is pointed out by you in your reply - "there are sooo many other factors at play here!" I just played with it a bit using facetious examples. Oh, and the 51 hp Honda was the rather bland performing Honda NC750X from a dyno test by Rider magazine. That is bland for the more spirited riders of course. I just watched the video and actually it was a great explanation with great visuals. All with a Lego robotic kit. As a middle school tech teacher, something most kids in my classes would get from the video. And actually the "how fast you go" and "how far the wall moves" will be a mix of factors as well... another "bench racing platitude" and another thing to yell at me about saying... A wise friend once told me "Horsepower sells parts, torque wins races"- Used to be heavy in to street/drag racing and we had a joke that: " Horsepower is when the tach outruns the speedo, torque is when the speedo outruns the tach". Of course you had to be familiar with watching analog gauges for it to make any sense. This came to be when a group of import "tuners" showed up on our turf and planned to school us with their 600hp Civic's. More than a couple came to the domestic side after experiencing test rides with 800+ ft lbs of domestic grunt
Premium Member bornagainbiker Posted May 15, 2021 Author Premium Member Share Posted May 15, 2021 All this talk about torque and horsepower makes me appreciate what a wonderful balance of the two our beloved 07 has. 6 Give Respect To Get Respect https://jeff-galbraith.pixels.com/
