MPG 2018 MT07

Just out of curiosity I did  conservative riding mpg test. My normal mpg is around 54 mpg. On this test I  shifted at 4000 rpms and rode 55 to 60 mph.  98% roads not city and got a  62.77 mpg. My klx230 got 66.88 on a 50/50 dual sport ride.  I am really impressed with the fuel economy of the MT 07.

Hey Grant. I think the roads in your neck of the woods are the same as mine here in SW Georgia. Paved two lane with few traffic control devices and little traffic. I'm putting around at 4-5000 rpm in fourth and fifth getting pretty much the same mpg as you. Yamaha designed and built a real winner with this bike. Mine is a 2016 model.

Triple Jim

On back roads without a lot of stopping I regularly get low-mid 60s with my stock 2020.  On a recent long ride, the speed limit was generally about 45 on twisty, mountain back roads in western NC, and I got an indicated 71 mpg for the tank.  I've checked the MPG displayed against GPS miles and pump gallons, and it's really about 1-1.5 mpg higher than indicated on the display.

Normal riding of all sorts on the XSR700 seems to consistently provide mid 50 without problem.   I don't know what the mpg is for the 900s, but I do know my son-in-law's FTR is well below 50 mpg, we're looking for gas at around 100 miles.

  My KLX650 did 60 mpg, I haven't bothered with the 250.

On my last 2017 FZ-07 my best tank average was 75.6 mpg over 169 miles, the bike indicated 70.4 mpg over that tank. My longest trip on one tank was 253 miles as I did an experiment and purposefully ran out of fuel. Averaged 72.5 mpg on that tank bike indicated 66.9 mpg 51.8 miles on trip F, started running out at ~249.5 miles. Was 3.490 gallons to fill back up.

If you look up on Fuelly I have 23,735 tracked fuel miles over the 28,600 miles I owned the bike from new until trading it in for my current Super Ténéré in December 2019.

My unflashed '16 FZ07 got 52mpg under normal use. Low to mid 40's if I was playing with it. On the interstate it got awful fuel mileage. Mid 30's cruising at 80-85mph.

My flashed '16 FZ09 gets 38-40 if playing. Couldn't crack 45mpg under normal use and was rather annoyed by that. Put on a Yoshimura Y series exhaust and instantly gained 5 mpg. Welcome surprise. Now I get 49-51 under normal use and upper 30's cruising interstate.

For me, the fuel mileage between the 07 and 09 are almost identical. I'm supposed to be running 92 octane, but I've had zero issues running 89, so the 07 is still cheaper to run. Considering there's about 40hp difference between the two bikes I think the fuel mileage on the 09 is very respectable.

I have no idea how you guys are getting mpg's in the 70's! Y'all got way more restraint than me!

My "flashed" 2016 FZ-07 did it's first actual "race" weekend in August of 2022.... I'm glad I had the foresight to keep an eye on the fuel gauge- I nearly ran out of fuel!!!! I used to average 47-52 mpg on the street. On track, @ race pace, I was only averaging 19 mpg 😆. I can't imagine anything more humiliating than running out of gas during a race 🙄-

In the olden tymes, mx bikes with fuel tank petcocks - you could run out of gas on first lap because you forgot to turn the petcock to "OPEN"

I grew up right next to the cornfields, I was about 16 or 17 made it about half way out in to the middle of said corn and ran outa gas with a full tank. Walked it home, pinched my fuel line off (outa habit) tore my carb apart and cleaned the hell out of it. Put it all back together just to realize I had my gas turned off the entire time. Lucky I was by my self that day to minimize the embarrassment.

OT: I just ran a full tank to empty riding only the backroads I live on 40-50mph got roughly 220 miles outa my tank. I’m not good with math but that’s seems like it’s would be in the higher 60’s to me…

I have a 2019 07 with 2wdw tune. I get around 50 mpg (sorry metric folks) at around 70 mph highways (I weigh 185-190 lb with gear). City riding, I notice it drops to 40 mpg +/- 5mpg depending on how enthusiastic I feel. I know reserve is 4 liters (~1 gallon), but I feel like it turns on way earlier since I usually fill up to 2 gallons once the reserve light is on. I think the nozzle depth at the fuel pumps goes too deep in the fuel tank for a full fill up. Anyone else notice this?

Ironically, my first bike only had a speedo and I thought a fuel indicator would have been nice. Instead, I get triggered now when I see the low fuel light. On my first bike, I would ride it till near empty and not be worried about range. Now, seeing low fuel light gives me some anxiety.
