Civiltechyyc
After 6 years and 35,000km it's time to replace the OEM chain and sprocket. Does anyone have any experience with aftermarket parts? I'm look at both a DID (Near if not OEM kit) or a RK chain kit.

I did a 520 chain conversion on my track bike with Driven Sprockets and RK Chain - MAX-X RX-Ring. I am very satisfied with the quality and performance. Triple Jim
I've found RK to make good chains at a reasonable price. I've used several of them. Same with JT sprockets. I'd expect a kit from RK to be good quality too. Edited September 11, 2023 by Triple Jim
Global Moderator Pursuvant Posted September 11, 2023 Global Moderator Share Posted September 11, 2023 DID, RK, sure. @shinyribs did a cheap-o "FirePower O-ring" and got great service, so I used one too as a bridge chain between two full drives sets when I had partially worn sprockets. It works fine, but I go back to DID & RK for full sets. Here's some parts I've done and will do again, you don't need all this stuff it's just for reference. Be careful, my parts are for a 44 tooth rear, don't order what you don't want by accident... If you have an interest in changing final drive ratios, now's the time to make sure before you change sprockets For DID a great chain is 525VX3 line I expect everybody replaces: Yamaha supporting parts- 1 x 90179-22018-00. $10.67 Countershaft front sprocket nut w/pinned edge (front sprocket) 1 x 90208-22002-00 CONICAL SPRING Washer (countershaft behind front sprocket) And most replace : 6 x 90185-10011-00 $2.94 Sprocket spring nuts (rear sprocket nuts) And stake your countershaft, not like the half-baked job I did... -------- Here's all my parts list related stuff below... @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ 525 Chain & sprockets 16/43 stock I run 16/44 Ordered Spring 2022 Motorcycles Unlimited Drivenracing.com Sprocket RR 525 44T p# 5008-525-44T-ST Sprocket FR 525 16T p# 1036-525-16T received DID VX3 Gold & Black chain 108 LE & Rivet Masterlink and installed with Super lite sprockets on 2022-06-15 Ordered 2022-06-15 sprocketcenter.com SUPERLITE RSX Series 525 Pitch Black Steel Rear Sprocket (#12815RX) (SL12815RX) REAR SPROCKET SIZE: 44 Tooth - RSX Steel SUPERLITE (#21607R) 525 Pitch Chromoly-Steel Front Sprocket - YAMAHA (SL21607R) FRONT SPROCKET SIZE: 16 Tooth Yamaha supporting parts- 1 x 90179-22018-00. $10.67 Countershaft front sprocket nut w/pinned edge (front sprocket) 1 x 90208-22002-00 CONICAL SPRING Washer (countershaft behind front sprocket) 1 x 1WS-2537W-00-00. $10.06 Sprocket "plate" secured by 6 nuts 6 x 90185-10011-00 $2.94 Sprocket spring nuts (rear sprocket nuts) 6 x 90201-10045-00 WASHER, PLATE (rear sprocket nut washers) 1 x 1WS-22151-00-00 $10.04 Swingarm chain wear guard @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Subito
A 520 conversion has never tempted me. I want my chains to last forever (because I’m cheap) and to require as few adjustments as possible (because I’m lazy), so getting the highest-quality 525 is my top priority.

I had my doubts when my mechanic told me that it was probably still the original chain and sprockets at 40,000km (I'm the 2nd owner), but you have just confirmed that he is not crazy. He installed an RK chain and an AFAM rear sprocket, but I don't remember the brand of the front sprocket. So far, so good!
