yamahaha
I've noticed my bike loosening up and the idle increasing somewhat. From what I'm reading online people are saying the idle is adjusted via the computer, hence a dealer visit. Does the throttle stop screw do nothing? I see it is adjustable. Guest Ralph
No leave it alone, that is only there to stop the butterfly's totally closing, if you adjust it the computer will just adjust it back to normal, if you adjust it far enough and the computer cant it will likely turn on the fault light. yamahaha
Good to know. Thanks.
rick
Yep, leave that be. I'm really surprised that Yamaha put it in a place so easily reachable and it's not been painted. The throttle plates are already set completely closed from the factory. AIr gets into the motor at idle via a valve (controlled by the ecu) mounted right between the throttle bodies. That air is fed behind the throttle plates. If you back that screw out in an attempt to lower the idle, the only thing that will happen is throttle plates will eventually dig into the bores of the TBs and eventually start to stick. Bad. If you turn that screw in to increase the idle speed, you'll let more air into the motor than the computer would like to see, it might make it hard to start, and like Ralph said, it might just kick up an error code. Guest Ralph
It does seem a bit strange if yours is ticking over a bit fast mine as never changed, maybe a bit smoother but the speed as stayed the same, they idle at 1100 to 1300 rpm which is a bit slow on a bike engine and hard to tell if it,s right or not from the rev counter. rick
My Aprilia (60 degree V twin) is set to 1250. 1100 is OK for a 4 or even a triple, but too slow for this twin imo. as well. A fast idle might suggest an air leak on the vac side of the TB.

It was a one time thing apparently. Next time I rode the bike it was fine. Its been fine since. I've also had gas tank venting cause this issue in the past on another bike. Guest Ralph
If it does it again check the temp reading if that is low then the ecu will likely speed up the idle, if it is low check the connections at the temp sensors.
