adjustments to the shift lever

It sure was easier to loosen that one bolt, take off, and move two notches up and retighten compared to the two lock nuts and twisting that adjusting bar.
 
My question tho..is that piece that fits around the toothed part also toothed ?
And I read the how to and it mentioned the way I did it could change the gear ratio ? Howz that?

It cant change the ratios they are fixed by the sizes of the gears, the arms are splined like the shafts
so if you move them you get quite a coarse adjustment using the rod you get a fine adjustment. If I
understand the question that is.

Ok perfect. .you worded that much better. I needed to raise my shift lever..

The shift linkage works best, when the angle between the lever (on splined shaft) and rod (threaded adjuster) is close to 90*. Moving the lever on the splined shaft will be a coarser adjustment, then turning the threaded adjustment rod.
