Finding first gear by accident while going 20 mph is pretty eye opening!!!

Now the rest of the story.  I had just pulled out on to the main street was in second going about 22.  The light in front of me had turn red so I was going to shift to neutral and coast up to it.  I must have shifted to far and got into first when I let the clutch out the tire quickly let me know my error by cussing at me (chirping).  Oddly enough I pulled the clutch in quicker than I ever have and all the world was right again. Once I shifted into neutral that is.

Yes, the engine breaking on these bikes is very strong. It has definitely gotten my attention when I flubbed up.

Why can't left turners see us?

Another reason why I don't coast... I leave the clutch in, almost to the point of stopping or engine RPM dropping too low. In the latter case, I'll rev-match and downshift till I stop.

I usually avoid that situation by shifting down into first and then going into neutral.

I downshift and revmatch to every stoplight. I always want to be able to skirt out of the way in the event of an idiot coming toward me.
