gcsrt
Went to the sled show and saw a ski / track kit for the FZ07 from Yeti- SnowMx! Looks like a pretty deadly setup. My Uncle is putting this kit on his WR so hopefully he doesn't like it Dustin
huskydave
I think those look fun, and I don't even like snow. One of those change my way of thinking
Premium Member username Posted November 7, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted November 7, 2015 Is there anything to worry about when putting a mainly summer use motorcycle through winter snow? Kind of been curious if it would wreck the bike
Premium Member norwest Posted November 7, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted November 7, 2015 IMO you would need to be on the lookout for the throttle bodies freezing, snow ingestion through the intake and the stock oil being a little too thick as you are always going to have the cold air blowing on the cases and covered in at least some snow. I would be curious to see a kit on the bike as opposed to the dirt bikes that are commonly used for the snow bike kits. Terry
gcsrt
If you're running that setup, you have a heated garage in the evenings. Switch to Delvac 0W-40 and you're done. The stock intake is fine and freezing throttle bodies is unlikely. If you notice, the front forks are switched out and the exhaust is highly modified. You certainly would have more hp than the 450 4-stroke guys (compared to dirt bike).
gcsrt
FYI, Yamaha has been running the R1 engine (1000cc) in their sleds since 2004 (RX1). It only produces 150-155 so it's obviously modified with a milder tune but it's nothing too crazy to put a bike on the snow.
