truthiness
Quick question guys and gals - do these headers look too far away from the head?
gregjet
Nope. Uless you can feel exhaust pulses around the clamps and even the could just be a damaged gasket ( they can move when you are putting the headers on and get pinched out of place. Go forth and modify my son...go forth and modify...
truthiness
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm trying to nail down a problem with the motor; the exhaust gas smells a bit rich and my last 3 fill-ups worked out to a 40 mpg average. The sound is also louder than it used to be. sansnombre
I have to take a look at my bike to be sure, but I think you ARE too far away from the exhaust port and your pipes are not fully seated. The brown marks also potentially indicate the presence of exhaust gas "spray" there as well - the pattern looks to be fanning out from the contact points. But this should be obvious when your bikes running if it is a leak - you should be able to hear and feel it. Are the nuts properly torqued or are they loose? Gut says there is a problem, but I'll take a look at mine once the sun comes out and confirm or deny . . . .
